“If you stop for one second and do something, everyone is happy. You pay it forward and it comes back to you twelve-fold.”Mariska Hargitay

For the past two years, CAPE (Channel and People Engagement) has been spearheading a Salo-Salo for all CMG/FSO (Channel Management Group/Field Sales Ops). We allocate a certain part of our budget to spend for a simple salo-salo with our local partners, TD (Territorial Distributor), personnel and BBSP (Broadband Sales Partner) agents, in celebration of 0917 Day, and as a way of thanking them for a year of partnership.

Last year, our Cagayan team shared the budget to our agents and TD personnel who helped us in our recovery activities from the aftermath of typhoon Ompong. While everyone is celebrating, we were busy deploying Libreng Tawag, Charging, and planning recovery programs.

This year, we decided to use our budget doing a different Globe of Good – Region 1-wide – and join the contest initiated by CAPE. Moving as one, from Ilocos Region to Pangasinan province and the Cordilleras, simultaneous #GlobeOfGood activities were conducted on the morning of September 19.

First, stop: Ilocos Region.

In Ilocos Norte, (TD) RQC2 team decided to do clean-up drive in the historic and UNESCO-heritage site Paoay Church. To help maintain the cleanliness of the church, they donated cleaning materials and trash bins. In attendance are some of the LGU and church officials to receive our donations.

The team of (TD) RQC1 in Ilocos Sur trooped to the nearby Sta Catalina beach, Brgy Paratong, Sta. Catalina Ilocos Sur, and did a clean-up drive along the coast, together with the barangay officials.

While the team in La Union (TD) PGI1 shared their Salo-salo budget, feeding 500 pre-school children in the remote village of Bawanta Elementary School of Bauang La Union and delighting them with different games.

Pangasinan province:

Hygiene kits for mothers and coloring books for the children were distributed by the team of Pangasinan West  (TD) RQC3 in Barangay Lipit Sur Manaoag Pangasinan. Mothers and their pre-school children were served with hot porridge after the distribution of kits and loot bags. About 150 participants were served that day.

To keep a fresh and healthy Bangus harvest, PGI1 (TD) team in Pangasinan East helped in the preservation of the mangrove forest in Dagupan where an additional 1,200 Bakawan tree samplings were planted and a clean-up drive of the forest was conducted.

The Cordilleras:

Landslides are now a common thing in the Cordilleras. Pine trees are cut to give way to development. To help in the preservation of the remaining beauty of this mountain resort, PGI3 bought 100 pine tree samplings and planted them in some parts of Burnham park.

Overall, we touched 650 souls, planted an additional 1,500 trees, and cleaned up two important areas in one day! It was a small action compared to the bigger problem of the country but we believe that one act of kindness can change lives, and quite possibly, return us – twelve-fold! It was indeed a celebration of giving back and doing a #GlobeOfGood and we, Team of NLWEST, will commit to do it again, and again. 'Till the next 0917 Celebration!
