Gearing Up For Another Win!
The Globe Men’s Volleyball team story
John Israel Pascual, ICONtributor09/18/19 14:09pm

The Globe Men’s Volleyball team, the reigning JZA Volleyball champions are set to defend their title. Last year, they showed steady stellar games from the elimination round to the championship match against Ayala Land Incorporated (ALI). Other participating Ayala companies are Ayala Corporation (AC), Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Integrated Micro-Electronics, Inc. (IMI) and Manila Water.

(Left to Right: Japho Caballero, Kevin Capa, JD Bartolome, Maxi Salcedo, Paolo Ocampo, Jian Bautista, Mark Garcia, Josh Cagas (Team Captain), Van Bacolod, John Pascual, Johndy Martinez, Simon Manlangit, Paolo Mariano, Jim Velarde, Ton Del Villar)

The Element of Preparation

To replicate last year’s victory, the team has been preparing since March 2019 to secure Globe’s second JZA Volleyball championship title. Members of the team come from different lines of businesses -- from product management to network and from business to operations. They make sure to balance their time to ensure that they will deliver what is expected from them at work and on the court.

Test of Winning Character?

Even with prize hitters and newbies added to the squad, they came up short, finishing 5th place in the Vikings Cup last June, ending the league with two wins and four losses. The Vikings Cup is a local volleyball tournament for schools, clubs, companies, and professional teams who are looking for good competition.

After the unfortunate tournament loss, the team kept their eyes and set their minds to the only trophy worth winning: The JZA Cup. A huge reason to recalibrate and go back to basics. No real pressure but just like any other team, they like to win not individually, but for Globe.

The coaching staff did not fail, bringing back their winning attitude of our Telco Spikers, “Ang kailangan natin ay ibalik 'yung winning attitude natin from tune-up games to JZA Cup,” coach Dong Dela Cruz said.

A Possible Back to Back Championship?

THAT IS FOR CERTAIN! It is camaraderie that will propel the team to the top. If there is something that we can expect from the team, it is that they would not go down without a fight! Together, we will #MoveAsOne

Everyone is invited to support our Telco Spikers in JZA Volleyball Cup 2019! Please see the schedule of the games below, we hope to see you there!
