Why Go For 5G In Your Homes?
5G will make fiber-like speeds accessible to more homes

With all these Gs around laced into your home experience, and the talks of AI (artificial intelligence) and intelligent homes, it’s easy to fall into the “I-don’t-believe-my-internet-will-get-any-better” kind of a trap. Those who get fiber technology are lucky to get fiber speeds. But how about homes who do not have ready access to fiber? Now that’s where 5G comes in.

The Philippines has become the first country in Southeast Asia (SEA) to experience commercial fifth-generation (5G) fixed wireless broadband, thanks to Globe’s recent launch. With it comes fiber-like speeds  – a boon to homes that do not have fiber tech lying around their neighborhood.

Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G postpaid plans offer fiber-like speeds of up to 100Mbps and data packages of up to 2 terabytes. Initially available in select areas in Pasig, Cavite, and Bulacan, the use of 5G in this manner makes it easier for Globe to roll out fiber-like speeds, wirelessly.

Imagining the 5G home

What’s the buzz about 5G in homes? With high-speed internet – previously only available to fiber-enabled locations – streaming 4K videos, securing your home, and connecting more and more appliances to the internet becomes possible.

Imagine going home and turning on the air conditioning before you arrive, opening your garage door with a voice command, asking a home assistant for the weather, and your fridge telling you what you need to buy at the grocery. These are things that are previously only accessible to homes that are connected to fiber internet.

Enabling the Philippines

Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu revealed that the Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G will enable the company to connect more Filipinos at home given the external challenges of rolling out fiber optic cables in the country. “The arrival of 5G has caused excitement in the global world of telecommunications. Today, we made a crucial step in fulfilling our goal of connecting more Filipino homes, and our vision of bringing first-world Internet to the Philippines,” Ernest adds.

The installation of more Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G to homes will reinforce the company’s efforts to achieve the goal to connect two million homes by 2020. And since it uses fixed location wireless radios instead of fiber optic cables, the technology leap frogs the circuitous approval process of deploying a fiber optic cable.

Globe at Home Air Fiber 5G will be available to eligible customers in July 2019. Plans come at P1899 per month for up to 20Mbps, P2499 for up to 50Mbps, and P2899 for up to 100Mbps. All come with up to 2TB data capacity.
