Score another win as Globe, together with Singtel and KDDI, bagged the Outstanding Catalyst Award at this year's TM Forum* for its catalyst project named "Digital Twin". Other participants who contributed to the catalyst include Ericsson, Etiya, Huawei, Infosys, and Neural Technologies.
A digital twin is a "best guess" representation of a customer based on interactions and transactions telcos have with them. As customers use telco services, AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning) models can continuously predict, evaluate, and retrain itself and learn from patterns.
Every year, TM Forum holds Digital Transformation World (DTW) wherein Communications Service Providers (CSPs) – the traditional telco model – create catalyst projects (similar to Proof of Concept). Catalysts depict a common pain point for telcos together with a solution contributed to by vendor partners and suppliers.
Globe is now a DSP (digital service provider) because we offer more than just telco services and products. We also offer cloud services, digital subscriptions, payment services, etc. By 2025, Globe aims to become a Digital Operator that also offers other industry verticals and technologies like a Digital Twin.
Digital Twin could be applied to a thing, people, organization, and process. The catalyst presented in Nice, France produced four twins that are beneficial to a CSP: DT of a Mobile Network, DT of an IP Network, DT of a Customer, and DT of a Digital Operator.
In the future, if predictions on customer responses and campaign take ups are almost perfect, then we could say we have already built a Digital Twin of a customer.
5G plays a major role as an enabler of this technology because of the volume of information that is sent to and from the twin and the customer on a real-time scale.
