How do you usually spend your weekend? Sleeping late? Exercising early? Bonding with family? How about doing something for the people of Marawi who were displaced by the seige?

A few Saturdays ago, 64 Ka-Globe woke up early and helped in a Meal-Packing Event for some 300 displaced families from the Marawi siege who were relocated to Iligan City.

Our Globe timeslot was 7 am to 9 am. With that short shift, each table had to pack 11 boxes, wherein one box contains 32 food packs.

Rise Againts Hunger in partnership with Hewlet Packard and Resorts World, tapped several companies for volunteers to assist them in packing rice grains with a variety of natural ingredients and assortment like fish flakes, champorado, and ginataan. While the volunteers worked, organizers played Zumba music so everyone was all powered up! A great energy booster indeed!

One table, packing fish flakes noticed that they have no boxes anymore and the grains are almost gone, so they called the attention of the ushers. They were surprised by the reply: You have finished 9 boxes already that's why there's only two boxes left! They all laughed, and realized that it's just almost 8 am and that they were so zealous in doing their job that they finished the two-hour shift in just one hour! Kudos to fish flakes team who were the first to finish their shift! Incidentally, one of the packers was a second-time volunteer Andrew Nagutom. This was his second Saturday volunteer stint this year.

Volunteers from Mano Amiga teacher's day off participants namely Suzy Urbano, Isabelito de los Reyes, Gretchel Cabonegro, Jay Estarez and Matet Abad and Andrew were the first to respond to this call. They gladly enlisted their friends and volunteers were pegged at 36 people on the first day it was announced by ICON. Not long after, the volunteers reached 64 participants.

This was indeed a successful, life-changing activity! Most of the volunteers requested to be tapped again for upcoming #GlobeOfGood activities.

Kudos to the 64 ka-Globe volunteers! May your tribe multiply a hundredfold!

So Ka-Globe, what are we waiting for? Let's unleash the spirit of volunteerism in us! Let us never get tired of doing a #GlobeOfGood
