Tribe leader responds with equally moving message

We have always been proud of of doing a #GlobeOfGood. But just last weekend, amid a crowd of volunteers from Globe, one of our leaders let out a moving message about thanking the tribe for the great feeling they gave to the volunteers:

But the crying didn't stop there. When the Yangil tribe's chieftain spoke, he was also moved to tears:

THE RESULTS

About 1,465 seedlings were donated and prepared by the team composed mostly of members of the Systems Integration-Core, System Engineering Integration (SEI), Wireless Engineering Implementation (WEI) of Network Technical Group (NTG). However, more seedlings need to be prepared since we need to cover 3,000 hectares.

Globe MusAC (Music and performing Arts Club), after a successful fundraising event - and after visiting the tribe themselves back in November last year - also donated two (2) bonggos, two (2) guitars, one kahon and one tambourine. This was meant to help preserve the Yangil culture and art and would be useful to them to entertain visitors during their program, and of course, as an everyday way of enjoying life since they don’t have electricity.

Rommel Guillermo, SI-Core Head recalls:

"During the debriefing the entire team is very emotional and you can feel that something has changed. The Aetas helped us understand what happiness is. We made them smile when we gave them gifts, but they made us teary eyed when we saw their smile, and our heart burst with happiness.

When they sang and danced for us to show their appreciation, we felt so honored and humbled. We were amazed how happy they are with a plastic of spaghetti package and some musical instruments. I think that it’s not about what they received, it’s about knowing that somebody is caring for them. During the Chieftain's speech to thank Globe, he said 'hindi ko din maintindihan na kung bakit ako na walang pinag-aralan ang napili n'yong tulungan'.

The chieftain cried during his speech, which is according to our guide, is the first time they saw the chieftain cried in front of a crowd. We realized we did something extraordinary for them.

During the debriefing a lot of ideas from the team surfaced immediately thinking what more we could do to help them. Most of them had no slippers, no water and electricity; children walk two hours to go to school, no access to hospital or clinics, and more trees need to be planted.

The team knows that we need to come back. We should not leave them behind.

And one thing is clear: we have benefited the most from this outreach program and not the Aetas because they made us all a better person after this. Thanks so much Globe."

Rommel also extends thanks for the leaders who also made the outreach possible, Libertine Buencamino (SEI Head) and Ashish Pilani (WEI Head).

There were a LOT of photos taken by the members of the volunteering group. Here are a select few.
