Back-to-school Helping!
Volunteering for schools to make it wonderful for kids!

It was a wonderful experience volunteering to do the painting of desks and chairs at Naalad Elementary School, Naga Cebu. Initially, only 7 volunteered for this activity. We still wanted to push through even with the limited budget and planned to work around our budget. Once we shared the coming activity to our colleagues, many volunteered and we reached a number of 20 Globe employees! I then requested for  personnel from our Security group to proceed with the activity.

We were tasked to paint 150 desks and chairs in the school. And since the principal requested for only 10 gallons of terracotta paint, we still have extra money to spare for other materials the school needed the most and probed for other materials they would need. We brought along with us gardening materials, too, to donate to the school. And instead of 10 gallons of paint, we brought 13 gallons!

The activity started around 830am, with the turn-over of painting and gardening materials. Our team, together with some family members who were willing to help, was there to assist in the painting. We also were lucky enough to have members of the Recon Team to help us out.  They bought with them paint brushes and rollers to make our job much easier.

When we reached the school, there were more than 150 desks and chairs that needed repainting. Manpower and supplies were not enough to paint everything. So, we choose the desks and chairs that we feel needed the repainting. We divided the team into groups, to make the work faster.

Some were tasked to clean the desks/chairs using brooms and sandpaper. Another group was to apply the first coating on the desks/chairs.  After the first coating dried out, another team was to apply the final coating. We sun-dried the desks/chairs before we transported them back to the classrooms.

Even though we brought lunch, the teachers were very kind to prepare additional food. They also prepared food for snacks. We finished the painting activity around 330pm, sadly, we were not able to take a group picture because everybody was tired from the activity :(

I can say that the overall activity was a success! Everybody cooperated to finish the activity and although we had challenges, we pulled it through. Until the next Bridaga Eskwela!
